the background is very good. But the border needs a darker edge, doesn't stand out well enough.

You pretty much completely ruined that BG with the render. You need to learn to blend rather than opacity/hue/or overlay methods.

dude, maybe, but that abstract was just abstract brushes, with a color blend. there are like 20 mil tuts out there for that kinda thing. i just tried one and it came out good.
